The Prince George’s Arts Council (PGAC) is an independent non-profit organization designated by the Prince George’s County government to coordinate financial support and advocacy for the arts.
The staff and board of directors believe that the arts play an integral and vital role in everyday life and are valued by residents and visitors to the county.
Mission
The Prince George’s Arts Council enhances the quality of life in Prince George’s County by supporting and nurturing the County’s arts community and facilitating partnerships among the arts, business, education and government.
The work of the board of directors and staff is guided by a set of core values and principles:
- We support creative and artistic achievement and creative expression in all its forms.
- We believe in the value of life-long learning through the arts, particularly in our schools.
- We believe that the arts can serve as a catalyst to bridge racial, cultural, social, economic and generational gaps, and build stronger communities.
- We believe that working in partnership with education, government, business and private funders can enrich our communities.
We are committed to maintaining an effective and ethical environment that serves the needs of our communities and provides stewardship of the resources invested in us.
Strategies The work of the Prince George’s Arts Council work is defined by the following strategies:- Visibility PGAC increases community engagement in the arts by identifying opportunities in the county that can highlight the role of the arts in economic and community development and quality of life.
- Convening PGAC builds networks and facilitates partnerships and collaborations among the arts community and education, business, tourism, economic development, and civic organizations.
- Advocacy PGAC’s voice ensures that the arts community is a valued community partner for education, community and economic development and tourism.
- Service PGAC provides information and technical assistance to artists and arts organizations that serve the county, enhancing their capacity to make art and run more effective organizations.
- Grantmaking PGAC operates an effective competitive merit based grants program that supports artists, organizations and arts in education.
